Expertise
The Challenge: Keeping Family Close Without Losing Privacy
Like many Long Island homeowners, this Merrick family was facing a difficult transition. They wanted to bring their aging parents to live with them to ensure they were safe, cared for, and avoiding the exorbitant costs of assisted living facilities in New York.
However, they were highly concerned about the logistics. Moving multiple generations under one roof often leads to friction if the home isn’t properly designed. They needed a solution that would allow the grandparents to maintain their independence, dignity, and personal space, while preserving the primary family’s privacy. To complicate matters, navigating the strict town regulations for multi-generational housing felt overwhelming.
Solution
The TCR Builders Solution: Seamless Multi-Generational Living
They relied on TCR Builders to design and construct a smarter solution: a fully integrated, code-compliant Mother/Daughter conversion.
Because we specialize in complex structural expansions, our team handled the entire municipal permitting process to ensure the new layout was 100% legal. We reconfigured the existing footprint to create a dedicated living zone that included a private bedroom, a fully accessible custom bathroom, and a comfortable sitting area. We expertly connected the new suite to the main house, allowing for easy access during family dinners and caregiving, while ensuring both generations had the ability to retreat to their own completely private spaces at the end of the day.
